Ex Libris Maya Angelou - Unique Bookplate Illustration Print for Art & Book Lovers
£12.00
I made a series of bookplates for some inspirational and interesting people from history and beyond. Each bookplate is inscribed with 'Ex Libris' which is latin for 'the library of' and the name of that particular person alongside imagery that relates to them!
This print is inspired by a wise queen who captured many hearts; inspirational poet, writer, singer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou! I love her poetry and she is such an interesting person to learn about.
⠀
The reason I've made her Ex Libris a playing card is because of a unique aspect of her writing process. Maya Angelou would write in a rented hotel room, asking for all pictures to be removed and requesting housekeeping not to change the sheets since she never slept in there. Instead she would lay across the bed, propping herself up on one elbow with nothing around her except the yellow legal pads she liked to write on, the bible, a thesaurus, a bottle of sherry and a deck of playing cards or crossword puzzles. She developed an unusual habit of playing solitaire or when she found it difficult to unlock her inspiration and creativity and called this activity ‘occupying the little mind'. ⠀
Matte indigo digital print on slightly textured heavyweight stock.
This is an unframed print. This will fit in a standard A4 frame, or please contact your local framer for advice!
